Thank you to all who attended the 14^th Annual Art Auction.  What a fun, successful night!!!  A big THANK YOU to all volunteers who assisted in making student artwork, taking photos, transporting items, setting up, cleaning up and securing donations.  We could not have done it without you!    Final numbers will be shared at Friday’s PTA meeting.  Drum roll please…….

It is that time again.  Nominations are being accepted for the 2012-2013 PTA Executive Board.  Additional nominations can be made from the floor at the General Membership meeting.

Mark your calendars!!!  This year, the annual Fall Festival will be held on September 23rd, 2012.  Our Fall Festival is held alongside the Oktoberfest sponsored by the West Annapolis Business Association.  Also, please consider donating gently used toys, games, CDs, DVDs and other items that would be good for our prize table.  There will be blue bins in the lobby for these prize donations throughout the month of May.

·         May 11^th – PTA Meeting at 8:30 AM in the Teacher’s Lounge.

·         May 14^th – County Council Meeting at 7:00 PM (Old Mill High School).  Don’t forget to wear school colors or Spirit Wear.  Anyone wishing to speak may begin signing up at 6:00 PM.

·         May 17^th - PTA General Membership Meeting and Executive Election and Talent Show

·         May 29^th – Planet Protectors will meet immediately after school.   Please bring ANY of the following:

o   Used, clean green 20 ounce bottles

o   Clean (inside and labels removed), glass jars with lids (i.e. spaghetti sauce)

·         May 30^th – Tentative Restaurant Night.  More info to come.

·         June 1^st - PTA Meeting at 8:30 AM in the Teacher’s Lounge.

2012-2013 Elections and Bylaws

It is time to elect the 2012-2013 WAESPTA Executive Board.  Nominations can be sent directly to Jenn Macris by emailing jmacris@hotmail.com . Nominations will also be taken from the floor at the General Membership meeting / Talent Show on Thursday, May 17, 2012.  In addition, we will renew our Bylaws which have been updated by MDPTA.  The current WAESPTA bylaws can be viewed here.

National Teacher Appreciation Week

Tomorrow begins National Teacher Appreciation Week and will be celebrated at WAES! If you have volunteered to fill a vase with flowers, please deliver to the assigned teacher Monday morning! Thank you to all those parents, especially room parents, helping with luncheons. Remember set up by 10:45 AM and clean up by 3:00 PM. The teachers are going to have such a wonderful week!

• Tomorrow Tuesday, May 1 ^st - May Day Baskets . Each student is encouraged to bring a contribution to our baskets. It can be a single flower, a leaf, a stick, a ribbon – doesn’t have to be much. We will be collecting items as students walk in /get off the buses on Tuesday, May 1 ^st and displaying in May Day baskets out in front of the school.
• May 3 ^rd – Knitting Club is back on! Stacy Canuel has taken over for the remainder of the year. Knitting Club will happen every Thursday after school in the library from 250 pm to 350 pm. Thank you Kirstin for leading so until this point!!!
• May 4 ^th – The Art Auction is this Friday. Directions to CBF coming today.

Money earned through Restaurant Nights is used for Student Enrichment, Cultural Arts Assemblies and Events, Family Fun Nights and more! We could not do these great things for our kids without you! Stay tuned for end of the year Restaurant Nights at Chick-Fil-A and/or Metro.

• April 17 ^th - The next Restaurant Night is this at Cheeburger, Cheeburger in the Festival at Riva Shopping Centre. Your flier was sent home in the Tuesday 4/10 folder. You can also print and distribute. If you forget our flier, just tell them you are there for WAES! See you there!
• April 20 ^th – Deadline to send in Art Auction pre-admission forms.
• April 21 ^st - Greenscape is scheduled for this Saturday from 8am to 11am. Bring your gloves, rakes, and shovels and be ready to spruce up for Spring. Contact is Kristy Myers kristy.s.myers@gmail.com .

• May 14 ^th – County Council Meeting to discuss Anne Arundel County Public Schools 2012-2013 budget. As you heard at the Meet the Principal sessions, WAES is slated to lose one teaching position next year. The new school plans and timing also have not yet been finalized. It is our chance to show our support and concern. Please wear school colors or your SPIRITWEAR and be heard at this meeting.
